I read the Vanity Fair article on Rudy Giuliani last night. Here it is if you wish to read it too. The only thing I can say, really, is he’s a bit strange definitely. This article paints him as a bit of a nutcase. My favourtie bit, however, has to be this:
This is the “goomah” issue. Rudy has expressed his belief to at least one prospective groom of my acquaintance that marriage is improved by a goomah (as rendered in The Sopranos)—the Italian-American dialect word for a significant other woman. His grandfather had had a goomah, Rudy said, with some sensitivity and depth of feeling, and his father had one, and what worked worked.
Plenty of politicians have had mistresses; I just find it funny that they use the Sopranos goomah term. And for those unfamiliar with the show, it’s pronounced like goo-mar. I suppose what’s funniest about Giuliani is that he has said recently that he is more than happy for his current (third) wife to sit in on cabinet meetings, if he becomes President, and provide advice. I’m sure Hillary would have loved for Bill to have done the same during their White House days.
The final point I’ll leave with is this: I fell for it and him. I don’t dislike him so much now, rather I’m just looking at him slightly differently. He seemed likeable enough, but apparently that’s just the crazy talking. In that case, though, I still stand by my original point that an election between him and Obama/Clinton would be interesting to watch. The only problem lies in what if he gets elected?
