Get Carter – The White House version

Well, not exactly like the original gangster film and remake but the Bush administration has its own version of ‘Get Carter’ at the moment only this time it’s an ex-President rather than a gangster. The Carter in question is former U.S. President and humanitarian Jimmy Carter. Carter won the Nobel Prize in 2002 largely due to his founding and work for Habitat for Humanity which builds houses for poorer people who cannot afford to buy a home.

Carter has set a completely new precedent for ex-Presidents by speaking extremely critically of the Bush administration and the war in Iraq. He has opposed the war from the beginning but this time he has voiced his opinion specifically on the Bush administration labelling it the ”worst in history.” To Bush’s simple-minded naiveté, them’s fightin’ words. So, he instructed his spokesperson to hit back with the appalling comment that Carter is becoming “increasingly irrelevant.” You can view the story here and here.

I am so fed up with this administration laying into every critic with such fervor and tenacity. President Carter, though possibly one of the most forgettable Presidents, has done wonders for the poor throughout America with his Habitat for Humanity project. To label an older gentleman who clearly still has all of his thought processes going strong (something we cannot really say for the current President) as irrelevant is simply rude, uncalled for and down right horrible. The man won a Nobel Prize for God’s sake; I’d like to see Bush even attempt to pronounce Nobel properly. Then of course, how can we all forget the whole Valerie Plame/Joseph Wilson incident? To knowingly out a CIA agent is incredibly irresponsible and, again, rude.

Well, rather than ramble on and on about how much I despise the Bush administration (and I’m pretty sure we all can tell how much I do), I’ll simply end with this: THANK GOD FOR TERM LIMITS!!! Bring on 2008.
