Stupidity at its utmost

I was browsing through CNN.com today and came across the rather strange headline of Mitt Romney’s cruel canine vacation. Seeing as it was to do with a candidate for President, I thought I’d have a look. I am not a member of PETA nor (as most who’ve been reading this blog for a while know) am I a vegetarian. I love animals and hate animal cruelty but I am not a fundamentalist animal rights campaigner by any sense of the word. What I read, however, just struck me as the most horrible and, more than anything, STUPID act I’ve heard of in a long time.

If you read the article, you’ll notice a picture from the Chevy Chase film National Lampoon’s Vacation. In it, Clark Griswold unwittingly ties the family dog to the back of his station wagon and takes off down the road. Hours later they are hailed down by a policeman who points out that the dog has been killed due to his absentmindedness.

This Mitt Romney intentionally put the family dog in a carrier and strapped it to the top of his car as he and his family drove 12 hours across Canada to Ontario. Oh My God!!! How stupid can one man be? How can you think, what shall we do with the dog? I know, let’s stick him on the roof! Needless to say, the dog was not happy and made it known (although possibly unable to control it) by pooping all over the car which Romney had to clean up. Serves him right, I say.

Let me say, I don’t think Romney should be prosecuted now for this act considering it was over twenty years ago. I don’t think he should be persecuted for animal cruelty so much as for STUPIDITY. I think animal cruelty involves a certain bit of forethought into hurting an animal. Romney obviously didn’t intend to hurt the dog; he was just STUPID. I also don’t necessarily think this has any weight whatsoever on his Presidential bid; he was just STUPID. As the great Bill Engvall of the Blue Collar Comedy Tour said: Here’s your sign Mr Romney.
