Funny as…

Couple little tidbits from the Diary section of the Guardian today. Funny as…insert pun here.
In encouraging but emphatically unamusing news from Turkey’s general election on Sunday, meanwhile, we are delighted to report that Istanbul has a new independent MP and that his name is Dr Ufuk Uras.
This column is glad George W recovered from the [...]

Chavez: Dictator extroadinaire

News today that Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez has said that any foreigners who visit the country and criticise his government will be removed. What a wonderful slogan for the local tourist board: if you can’t say something nice about Venezuela, don’t bother to come here.
I liked Chavez at first, for a very brief moment, when he [...]

Cartoon for the day

I found this morning’s Guardian cartoon absolutely hysterical. Hopefully you will too.

Edinburgh

As I said last week Tim and I went to Edinburgh last week with his parents. We spent an afternoon in Edinburgh and then went to Carnoustie to see the British Open golf championship on Friday. It was quite fun all around, except we were freezing on Thursday in Edinburgh on the open-top tour bus! [...]

YouTube continued

I just came across The YouTube-ification of politics: Candidates losing control article on CNN about YouTube and the gaffes politicians make showing up on the site. This article seems to go in my favour that politicians aren’t able to completely be themselves due to YouTube.

YouTube debate

Tonight Democratic presidential hopefulls will take part in a brand new type of debate. Rather than a moderator asking set questions, candidates will have to answer to people from across the US who have sent in questions to CNN via YouTube. The Republicans will be doing the same in September. This marks quite a change [...]

On the road again…

Well, Tim and I are off to Edinburgh, Scotland tomorrow with his parents. We’re actually going to Carnoustie for the British Golf Open because his dad looooooves golf. We’ll spend Thursday in Edinburgh though so expect more pictures soon.

Brussels

I went to Brussels on Friday with my London Elects colleagues for a team fun away day. We arrived around 11.00 in the morning and left around 8.30 that night. We took the Eurostar train from Waterloo. We ate, we drank, we walked, we enjoyed ‘team bonding.’ There isn’t a lot in Brussels to see [...]

Definitely a new low

Reading through the Guardian’s Comment is Free site just now and came across this: A new low by American Michael Tomasky. The Special Olympics were founded by Eunice Kennedy Shriver back in 1962. The Bush administration informed the surgeon general Richard Carmona a few years ago that he could not attend the Special Olympics because it might appear that [...]

Meet my husband, Mr Bin Laden

From the weird files: a former English parish councillor has married the fourth eldest son of Osama bin Laden. She’s told her family and friends about it but has waited until now to come out publicly. I wonder how that conversation went:
Mrs Felix-Browne: Hi ‘Sally.’ Guess what? I got married!
‘Sally’: Really?! To whom?
Mrs Felix-Browne: His name [...]
