Geez louise! Did you see today that China executed its former Food and Drug Administration (FDA) executive? My word, that’s a bit harsh don’t you think? I know his corruption caused deaths due to toxins in food and drugs, but execution? I knew China was fairly harsh in its punishment but this goes a bit beyond belief in my opinion. The high court said
Zheng Xiaoyu’s grave irresponsibility in pharmaceutical safety inspection and failure to conscientiously carry out his duties seriously damaged the interests of the state and people…
Whew, if ‘Scooter’ Libby had been in China, would he have had his tongue cut out for perjuring himself? Would Nixon have had his hands cut off for the robbery of Democratic headquarters? What about the cash-for-honours scandal in the UK? Would anyone proven to have arranged peerages for loans be hung, drawn and quartered? My goodness, they take corruption seriously in China. Hmmm, better hope the 2008 Beijing Olympics go off without a hitch or the head of that organisation/department might just lose his/hers.
