Edinburgh

As I said last week Tim and I went to Edinburgh last week with his parents. We spent an afternoon in Edinburgh and then went to Carnoustie to see the British Open golf championship on Friday. It was quite fun all around, except we were freezing on Thursday in Edinburgh on the open-top tour bus! I had worn sandals thinking I’d be okay but by the time we got off the bus, my feet were two blocks of ice. It was also, unfortunately, very grey but, eh, what are you going to do? It’s British summer after all.

Edinburgh was lovely. The reason for the black buildings is the Edinburgh sandstone. It holds dirt in the stones and cleaning it would break the blocks down therefore ruining old buildings and monuments. I think it adds to the charm though. We didn’t get to go in the castle or see much of the city but it’s just whet our appetites to go back sometime, hopefully when the weather is nicer. As with Brussels if you click here you can view my photos. Oh, we also stopped off at Lake Windermere on our way back to Cardiff Saturday. It’s in the gorgeous lakes district of England. Again, bad weather made for bad pictures but you get a sense of how lovely it must be in the sunshine. Enjoy.
