I hate popular music

It is so rare these days for me to hear anything I actually like on the radio. In my opinion, it’s all mostly shite. I’ve had the same three bands (Chevelle, Evanescence, Tool) on repeat on my iPod for I don’t know how long. I added Daughtry about three or four months ago and have recently discovered Paramore. I also had the pleasure of a new Linkin Park album a couple of months ago. Virtually none of these bands get any airplay on mainstream radio here. You might hear Evanescence now and then and I discovered Paramore on a music video channel but, otherwise, nada.

For this reason I happily clicked on an article on Guardian today titled 2007 has been a stinker for indie rock. I don’t think I even like indie music, but I really hate the indie music out at the moment. This is why I found this so funny

Indie rock’s A-list is even more laughable: Kasabian (Primal Scream), Razorlight (Dire Straits), The Killers (Shed Seven), Hard Fi (cease … now). That the Kaiser Chiefs (Terrorvision) have had the fourth biggest selling single of the year with Ruby – and Mika (Leo Sayer) the biggest – makes me pray, in the words of Bill Hicks, for nuclear holocaust in five seconds.

I’ve read that a similar stagnation occurred in the rock scene just prior to the grunge era of the early 1990s. Vive la grunge. One can only hope that perhaps this too is the calm before the storm and some new, GOOD bands will come out of the woodwork.

Must incorporate this in my everyday speech ASAP!
