The death of Verbal DiarLeah?

It occurred to me just now while reading this comment by Simon Jenkins from the Guardian that I will possibly have much less to write about once the new president comes in. I’ve spent many a post on this blog espousing ideas from my MA dissertation on how Bush and his war on terror has been nothing more than fear-mongering rhetoric developed and designed to scare the American populace into accepting made-up wars, made-up enemies and relinquishing their civil liberties and freedoms in the process.

With Bush out of the picture, will the ‘war on terror’ continue? Will the next president ‘carry the torch’ of this idea that you must scare the American people to get things done? I certainly hope not, but what will I write about then? According to the Jenkins comment Pakistan’s Pervez Musharraf has taken up the mantle of terror but I don’t know all that much about Pakistani politics and his actions don’t entangle the rest of the world as Bush’s have.

I’m having a crisis. Oh dear me. I suppose, though, that with every new event comes new challenges and I’m sure the next president will make plenty of mistakes and make plenty of stupid decisions that I can eagerly and happily criticise. It will just be a bit harder if it ends up being a Democrat, and especially if it ends up being Obama. Then again, there will always be the veggie-fascists.
