It’s funny how we say today that politics is so dirty. We claim everyone is slinging mud at everyone else; there’s a media bias on the left or right; the candidates are going negative; blah, blah, blah. Well, it seems from this article in the Washington Post that that’s all a load of rubbish. One of the most infamous Democratic conventions took place in 1924 when it took over 100 rounds of balloting to get a nominee. Now this is what I call dirty politics:
Believe it or not, the governors of Kentucky and Colorado got into fistfights trying to keep their state banners out of the hands of anti-Klan delegates. Governors throwing punches — now, that’s the kind of convention high jinks you just don’t see anymore!
