News today that an advisor to John McCain said that another terrorist attack on America would be advantageous to his campaign. This proves two things:
- John McCain is surrounded by neocons just as Bush was;
- Neoconservatives want war, terrorism and the fear that comes from it because it allows them to pander to this instinct in the American public.
In my MA dissertation I argued that the current administration and the neocons within it actually relish and feed on fear among the American people. They seek it out by raising the threat level to orange or saying you aren’t safe anywhere from a terrorist attack, etc. They then use this fear to enact civil-liberty-reducing laws such as the Patriot Act.
Charlie Black has all but admitted this by saying what he did. John McCain would use the fear that would come from a terrorist attack to prove himself as a leader and, thus, win the election. It just goes to show exactly why McCain cannot be trusted to ‘change’ America. With advisers like these by his side he might as well change his name now to Bush III. We don’t need another administration full of warmongering, fear-pandering neocons who want nothing more than to find the next big enemy to fight against in order to prove they’ve got bigger bollocks. Not in my America sonny John.
