It is rare for me to like a new band. Most of the current popular music is shite. Then came along Glasvegas. That’s right, Glasvegas. They’re from Glasgow, Scotland, and combined it with Las Vegas to make what I consider to be the best band name ever…seriously. You cannot think of two more opposite places than Glasgow and Las Vegas. Poverty versus wealth. Grey skies and the corner arcade versus bright lights and clean casinos. The list goes on. They’re a fantastic group who sing with their strong Glaswegian brodes rather than hiding them. Think The Proclaimers ‘I Would Walk (5,000 Miles)’ without the ‘havering’ and slightly more understandable. Their current single is ‘Daddy’s Gone’. Surprisingly, it’s about an absent father; another endemic problem in Glasgow I’m sure. I like the song but above all, I love the name. For my money, you cannot get better than Glasvegas.
For some reason YouTube won’t let me embed the video so you’ll have to visit the link here.
