Hi, my name is Leah O’Donovan and welcome to my blog. I’m originally from Arkansas, U.S.A. but now live in London, England with my husband Tim who’s from Cardiff, Wales…boyo.
This blog has varied since its beginnings in April 2007 from
- rantings about the political situation in America under then-President Bush, to
- a diary of quitting smoking, then
- back to political discussions during the 2008 US presidential election, then
- dormant for a long time, then
- a running diary during my 2010 Edinburgh Marathon training; and
- finally, now, back to discussions of political and current affairs from the UK, US and around the world.
The reasons for my taking it in this direction is my strong desire to write. Politics and current affairs fascinate me. I form opinions on news stories and controversial topics very quickly and – as many will agree – am ready and willing to share these opinions freely. I am doing a distance learning course from the National Council for the Training of Journalists (NCTJ) as I have decided I missed my calling: I want to be a journalist/writer. My goal is to take an exam in April 2011 to obtain the NCTJ preliminary Certificate of Journalism and try to find work as a trainee reporter.
My hope is that this blog will become a work portfolio of sorts. I would like to be able to point to it in future as evidence of my ability to write. I aim to be unbiased but, at times, I may find it hard not to express my personal opinion. If you disagree with me, that’s fine. If you’d like to submit a comment, feel free; however, I retain editorial rights and will not accept any abuse or spam. If you’re involved in the journalism/writing profession and like what you see here, please get in touch. You can email me on enquiries@leahodonovan.com. I would appreciate any tips on the business, constructive criticism and any work/job offerings. I’ve got to start somewhere. Thank you for reading.
